Eco Philosophy

All roads and buildings have been carefully sited so that there has been minimal disturbance to the environment. All buildings employ the Thermo Panel™ construction system and conform with or exceed the 5 Star Energy Rating.

Due to the heavy loads placed upon the Solar Electrical system, we are unable to have air conditioning; however, some ceiling fans are provided. Most of the year, the temperature is mild enough for it not to be needed.

Our sources of energy are 24 volt BP solar modules, with a storage of over 3 tonnes of latest technology Exide batteries, which produce 48 volts DC, and this is then inverted into 240 Volts AC.

Heating is provided by highly efficient Nectre combustion stoves, and firewood is supplied to cottages from free-fall trees only.

All lighting is the energy efficient compact fluorescent type. There are two diesel generators for backup in case of extended overcast periods. To conserve energy, one is for light and the other for heavy loads. We also recycle everything.

Rainwater is reticulated from a 10 metre high water tower which provides water to all buildings. A 5 megalitre dam has been constructed as a haven for wildlife. There are emus, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and a wide variety of birdlife.

The forest boasts a variety of Eucalypts, including Yellow Gum, Peppermint Gum, Red Gum and Yellow Box. Seasonal orchids and wildflowers abound.
